New combo therapy aims to delay prostate cancer progression

NCT ID NCT04070209

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase II trial tests whether adding precise radiation (SBRT) to the hormone therapy darolutamide can delay cancer progression in men with castration-resistant prostate cancer that has only a few new spots of growth. The study involves 66 participants and measures how long it takes for the cancer to worsen. The goal is to postpone the need for stronger, more aggressive treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

darolutamide (a hormone therapy drug) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT, a precise type of radiation)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could delay the need for stronger second-line treatments and help men with prostate cancer maintain a better quality of life for longer.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase pilot study with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. There is also a risk that the combination may not improve progression-free survival or could cause side effects from radiation.
