Could a simple saline drip boost stroke recovery? new trial aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07497542

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a large amount of IV saline (about 2-2.5 liters) right after clot-busting treatment helps people with acute ischemic stroke recover better. About 752 adults aged 18-80 who had a stroke and received thrombolysis will be randomly assigned to get either the large saline infusion or a small amount (under 600 mL). The main goal is to see if the saline group has better functional independence 90 days later, measured by a standard disability scale.
