Nerve block may slash painkiller use after prostate surgery

NCT ID NCT06962085

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a special nerve block (sacral erector spinae plane block) can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after transurethral prostate resection surgery. Sixty adults having this surgery under general anesthesia received either the nerve block or standard care. Researchers measured pain scores and opioid use for 24 hours after surgery to see if the block helps patients feel better and use fewer drugs.
