Blood test may replace unnecessary brain scans for head injury patients on blood thinners
NCT ID NCT03780062
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at 720 adults who had a minor head injury and were taking antiplatelet medication (like aspirin). Researchers checked if a blood test for a protein called S100B could accurately predict who did NOT have a serious brain injury needing surgery or hospital care. The goal was to see if the blood test could safely avoid the need for a CT scan in some patients.
