Heart-Protecting pill tested for rare autoimmune disease
NCT ID NCT02117453
Summary
This study tested whether the cholesterol-lowering drug rosuvastatin (Crestor) could reduce hidden artery plaque and prevent heart attacks or strokes in people with ANCA-associated vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disease. The trial involved 121 adult patients whose vasculitis was in remission. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either rosuvastatin or a placebo pill to see if the drug improved artery health and reduced long-term heart risks.
