Synthetic model could revolutionize surgeon training for prostate cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07669974

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a synthetic hydrogel model can train surgeons for robot-assisted prostate removal as effectively as standard training with biological tissues. Fifty-six surgeons in training will be randomly assigned to one of two training pathways. The goal is to see if the synthetic model leads to similar skill levels, which could make training more ethical, scalable, and standardized.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that synthetic models can replace animal or cadaver tissues for surgical training, making training more ethical and accessible.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (56 participants) comparing training methods, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to other surgeries or settings.
