Robot tutors: a new way to boost brain power in kids with movement disorders?

NCT ID NCT06797050

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study explores whether children with neuromotor impairment can improve cognitive skills like memory, attention, and planning by teaching a social robot to sequence picture stories. Eighty children aged 7 to 16 will be split into two groups: one that trains with the robot and one that continues standard care. After about four months, researchers will compare changes in thinking and motor planning abilities.

Active substance

Training with a social robot (Pepper or Nao) using the Learning by Teaching approach

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a fun, engaging way to boost cognitive skills like memory and planning in children with motor challenges.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants. The benefits may not be large or lasting, and not all children may engage well with the robot.
