Thyroid surgery risk: can magnesium levels predict a common complication?
NCT ID NCT07582562
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026
Summary
This study follows 300 adults having their entire thyroid gland removed to find out who is most at risk for developing hypoparathyroidism—a condition where calcium levels drop after surgery. Researchers will check if low magnesium levels before or after surgery increase the risk. Participants fill out a questionnaire and provide blood samples, but no new treatments are tested.
