Tape it to beat shoulder pain? new trial tests simple fix
NCT ID NCT07333417
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether applying a special rigid tape to the shoulder joint, along with exercises, can reduce pain and improve movement in people with AC joint degeneration. Twenty-eight adults with shoulder pain will be randomly assigned to receive either taping plus exercise or exercise alone for 4 weeks. Researchers will measure pain, range of motion, and daily function at several points, including a 3-month follow-up.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Rigid taping (a type of medical tape applied to the shoulder joint)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to ease shoulder pain and improve daily function for people with AC joint degeneration.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The taping is temporary and effects may not last beyond the 3-month follow-up.
