Heart scan may predict ventilator success in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT07073976

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 36 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple heart ultrasound can help doctors know when ICU patients on breathing machines are ready to breathe on their own. Researchers will measure the right side of the heart in 60 adults just before they try to come off the ventilator. They will then check if those measurements predict who succeeds without needing the machine again within 24 hours.
