Water vs. air: new colonoscopy technique may catch more hidden polyps

NCT ID NCT07456007

First seen Mar 07, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to perform colonoscopy that uses water instead of air to inflate the right side of the colon. The goal was to see if this method helps doctors find more polyps (growths that can turn into cancer) in that area. Over 400 adults undergoing routine colonoscopy took part, and the researchers compared the water method to the standard air method. The findings could lead to better prevention of right-sided colon cancer.
