New collagen membrane matches standard graft for thicker gums around implants

NCT ID NCT06880185

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested a new collagen membrane against a standard gum graft to see which better thickens the gum tissue around dental implants. Twenty healthy adults with thin gums received one of the two treatments during implant surgery. Both methods increased gum thickness by about 2 millimeters, with similar pain and quality-of-life scores. The collagen membrane appears to be a promising alternative to the traditional graft.
