New study tests ways to quickly reverse numb lips in children after dental anesthesia

NCT ID NCT05473858

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests two methods to reverse lip numbness in children after dental anesthesia. Thirty-six kids aged 6 to 10 will receive either a diode laser, an injection of Oraverse, or no extra treatment. The goal is to see which approach helps them regain normal lip sensation fastest.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Oraverse (phentolamine mesylate) injection and diode laser

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give dentists a way to reverse numbness in children's lips after dental work, allowing them to eat, drink, and speak normally sooner.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-phase trial with only 36 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The laser or drug might not work as well as hoped, and there could be side effects like pain or swelling.
