Breathing therapy may shield diaphragm in ventilator patients

NCT ID NCT07538102

First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether respiratory physiotherapy (breathing exercises) can prevent or reduce thinning of the diaphragm muscle in intensive care patients who are on a breathing machine. About 66 adults who have been on a ventilator for at least 5 days will take part. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure diaphragm thickness and see if the therapy helps protect the muscle and make it easier to wean patients off the ventilator.
