NCT ID NCT06078644
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether asking patients to keep a diary of their breathing exercises after major abdominal surgery could reduce lung complications and improve recovery. 60 patients were split into two groups: one used the diary to track spirometer exercises, the other did not. Researchers measured breathing, cough, fatigue, and walking ability for three days after surgery.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
respiratory exercise diary
What this could lead to
If this works, it could provide a simple, low-cost way to reduce lung complications and speed up recovery after major abdominal surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 60 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The diary is a tracking tool, not a treatment itself, so benefits may be limited.
