NCT ID NCT02669394
First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tested whether a resistance exercise program (like lifting weights) could help maintain brain health and thinking skills in older adults with vascular cognitive impairment—a condition where small blood vessel damage in the brain causes memory and thinking problems. 91 participants were randomly assigned to either resistance training or a stretching and relaxation program. The study measured changes in cognitive function and white matter health in the brain.
