NCT ID NCT07463261

First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at whether people with a low risk of complications can safely have rectal cancer surgery without a temporary stoma (a bag attached to the belly to collect waste). About 442 adults with mid- or low-rectal cancer will be randomly assigned to get surgery with or without a stoma. The main goal is to see if the rate of leaks where the intestine is reconnected is no worse without the stoma, while also checking quality of life and recovery.
