ERs waste time and risk patients with unused IV lines, study aims to stop it

NCT ID NCT07449455

Summary

This study tested whether training emergency room staff could reduce the number of unnecessary intravenous (IV) catheters placed in patients. Many catheters are inserted 'just in case' but never used, exposing patients to pain and potential complications like infections. The research involved over 500 patients and aimed to see if better guidelines and education for doctors and nurses could make care safer and more efficient.
