New breathing tube technique may ease sore throats after surgery

NCT ID NCT06218836

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a new way to place a breathing tube during surgery to reduce sore throat afterward. Instead of the usual method with a deflated cuff, doctors used a pre-inflated cuff to slide through the vocal cords more smoothly. The trial included 250 adults with easy airways having surgeries lasting 40 minutes to 3 hours. The goal was to see if this change lowers the chance and severity of a sore throat after the procedure.
