New rehab tackles fear of movement after shoulder surgery
NCT ID NCT06154889
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding psychological support to standard physical therapy can reduce fear of movement (kinesiophobia) in people who have had shoulder stabilization surgery for recurrent dislocations. 52 participants will be randomly assigned to either standard rehab or a new program that includes consultations with a sports psychologist. The goal is to improve quality of life and return to sport.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a standard rehab program that helps people return to sports and daily activities with less fear after shoulder surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The psychological component may not significantly improve outcomes over standard rehab.
