Texting ER patients about other options may cut repeat visits

NCT ID NCT07185828

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether sending a text message to people after a non-emergency ER visit can help them choose a better place for care next time, like their regular doctor or an online triage tool. About 8,200 adults who visited a Geisinger ER for a low-acuity issue will be randomly assigned to get different messages or standard care. Researchers will track if these messages reduce return ER visits over the next 4 months.
