Kidney nerve zapping may tame stubborn atrial fibrillation

NCT ID NCT05817318

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a procedure called renal denervation, which quiets certain nerves in the kidneys, can reduce the burden of atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) in patients who still have episodes despite previous successful lung-vein isolation. Six adults with recurrent, paroxysmal AF and high blood pressure or blood pressure medication were enrolled. The approach aimed to control the condition rather than cure it, and the study was terminated early.
