New imaging trick could clear the bloody view during lung biopsies
NCT ID NCT07653945
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a special type of light, called red dichromatic imaging (RDI), can help doctors see more clearly after taking a tissue sample from the airway. Bleeding often blocks the view during bronchoscopic biopsies, making it hard to continue. Researchers will compare standard white light images with RDI images from the same procedure in 206 adults. No extra biopsies or changes to care are involved.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging technique could help doctors perform bronchoscopic biopsies more safely and effectively by improving visibility after bleeding.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. It only tests image quality, not patient outcomes, and may not lead to changes in practice.
