Breast milk enema may boost gut bacteria in preterm infants
NCT ID NCT07558499
First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests a new way to help preterm babies grow healthy gut bacteria by giving them a small amount of their mother's breast milk through the rectum. The researchers will compare this to a saltwater solution in 60 preterm infants born at or before 32 weeks. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive method can improve gut health and reduce complications like feeding problems.
