New device could help rectal cancer patients avoid temporary ostomy bags

NCT ID NCT07429110

Summary

This study is testing a new medical device called the ColoSeal ICD System. It's designed to temporarily protect the new bowel connection made during rectal cancer surgery, with the goal of helping patients avoid needing a temporary ostomy bag. The research will compare the safety and effectiveness of this device against the current standard practice of creating a temporary ostomy. About 250 patients who are scheduled for rectal cancer surgery will participate.
