Radiation boost could help rectal cancer patients skip major surgery

NCT ID NCT03051464

Summary

This study is testing two different ways to give an extra boost of radiation after standard chemoradiation for early-stage rectal cancer. The goal is to see which method is better at completely eliminating the tumor so patients can avoid having their rectum surgically removed. The trial will enroll 131 patients who will be randomly assigned to receive either an external beam radiation boost or a more targeted internal radiation boost.
