Stretching and foam rolling may give young tennis players a leg up

NCT ID NCT07306351

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether adding recovery training—like stretching, foam rolling, and relaxation exercises—to regular tennis practice improves lower body explosive strength in young athletes. Twenty-eight tennis players aged 11-17 were split into two groups: one did only their usual training, while the other also did recovery sessions twice a week for four weeks. Researchers measured jumps and hops before and after to see if recovery training made a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

recovery training (stretching, foam rolling, relaxation exercises)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that adding simple recovery exercises to regular training improves leg power and reduces injury risk in young tennis players.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to all athletes. The effect on explosive strength may be minimal or not statistically significant.
