New surgical tool aims to stop spine screw mistakes before they happen
NCT ID NCT01232517
Summary
This study tested a new feature of a nerve monitoring system used during spinal fusion surgery. The system gives surgeons real-time alerts about nerve safety while placing screws, instead of checking after the screw is already in place. Researchers wanted to see if this real-time feedback helps prevent screw misplacement and potential nerve injury during surgery.
