Breathing test may help ICU patients avoid ventilator complications
NCT ID NCT07467265
First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a quick breathing measurement called the Rapid Shallow Breathing Index (RSBI) can accurately predict when a patient in the intensive care unit (ICU) is ready to have their breathing tube removed. Early removal can reduce serious complications from being on a ventilator too long. The study will follow 70 adult ICU patients who are already stable enough to try breathing on their own.
