New combo aims to extend life in stomach cancer
NCT ID NCT03081143
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether a combination of ramucirumab plus FOLFIRI (a standard chemo regimen) works better than ramucirumab plus paclitaxel for people with advanced stomach or gastroesophageal junction cancer that has worsened after one prior chemo treatment. About 429 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two combos. The goal is to see which combo helps people live longer and shrinks tumors more effectively.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Ramucirumab plus FOLFIRI (irinotecan, leucovorin, 5-FU) or ramucirumab plus paclitaxel
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new standard second-line treatment option for advanced gastric cancer, potentially improving survival.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-to-late-stage trial, but the experimental combo may not prove better than the current standard. Side effects from chemotherapy and ramucirumab (e.g., bleeding, fatigue) are possible.
