Can a CT scan spot hidden lung damage in rheumatoid arthritis?
NCT ID NCT07174102
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will examine chest CT scans from 500 adults with rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases, or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to better understand lung disease patterns. Researchers want to see which scan features are most common in rheumatoid arthritis-related interstitial lung disease and how they differ from other lung conditions. Participants will have their existing scans reviewed by a specialist, and some may have follow-up scans after two years to track changes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High resolution computed tomography (HRCT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify rheumatoid arthritis-related lung disease earlier and more accurately using CT scans.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any new drug or therapy, and results may not change current care directly.
