Could radiofrequency heat therapy help heal tummy muscles after pregnancy?
NCT ID NCT05731479
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding radiofrequency diathermy (a heat therapy) to a standard exercise program helps women with abdominal diastasis (separated tummy muscles) after childbirth. Thirty-four women aged 18–45 who were 3–24 months postpartum participated. They received either real diathermy plus exercise or a placebo plus exercise for 8 weeks. The goal was to see if the combination reduces muscle separation and improves strength, body composition, and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiofrequency diathermy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-surgical option to reduce abdominal muscle separation and improve strength and quality of life in postpartum women.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 34 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is added to exercise, so benefits may come from exercise alone.
