Heart repair without X-Rays: new trial aims to eliminate radiation risk

NCT ID NCT07054541

Summary

This study is testing a new way to fix a common heart defect called an atrial septal defect (ASD) without using X-ray radiation or contrast dye. It will compare the new ultrasound-guided method to the standard X-ray procedure in 666 patients to see if it works just as well. The goal is to provide a safer option that avoids the long-term cancer risk from radiation and the kidney risks from dye, potentially allowing for shorter hospital stays.
