First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether the drug pyridostigmine can safely help the bowel start working again in people who develop a temporary bowel blockage (ileus) after colorectal surgery. About 50 adults who have had elective colon or rectal surgery and then develop ileus will receive either pyridostigmine or a placebo, along with standard care. The main goals are to see how quickly bowel function returns and to monitor any side effects.
