New balloon zaps heart cells to stop AFib – first human trial underway
NCT ID NCT07320976
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This early study tests a new balloon catheter that uses short bursts of electrical energy (pulsed-field ablation) to treat atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem. The balloon is shaped to fit the veins that carry blood from the lungs to the heart, and it aims to safely block the faulty signals that cause AFib. 35 adults with paroxysmal (come-and-go) AFib will receive the procedure and be followed for one year to check safety and how well it works.
