Toothache study probes hidden inflammatory clues in gum fluid

NCT ID NCT07592455

First seen May 18, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 36 adults with severe tooth pain (irreversible pulpitis) to see if the level of certain inflammatory markers in gum fluid and tooth pulp matched their pain symptoms. Researchers measured pain using a standard scale and tested gum fluid and pulp tissue for TNF-alpha and substance P. The goal was to better understand the link between what patients feel and what is happening biologically inside the tooth.
