Tooth transplant trial hopes to revive dead teeth

NCT ID NCT07258888

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated Jun 06, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether transplanting a patient's own dental pulp (the soft inner part of a tooth) into a dead tooth could restore its vitality. Twenty-one adults with a dead front tooth and an infection at the root tip were randomly assigned to receive either a pulp transplant, a pulp transplant with a special growth factor, or standard root canal treatment. The goal was to see if the transplanted pulp could regrow and bring feeling back to the tooth, potentially offering an alternative to root canals.
