Lung rehab may strengthen breathing muscles in scarred lung disease
NCT ID NCT07205627
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Interstitial lung diseases cause lung scarring and stiffness, making it hard to breathe. This study will test whether an 8-week pulmonary rehabilitation program—including walking, cycling, and strength exercises—can improve diaphragm function, exercise ability, and quality of life. Twenty adults with stable interstitial lung disease will participate at a hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pulmonary rehabilitation program (aerobic and strength training)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that pulmonary rehab improves breathing muscle function and daily life for people with interstitial lung disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 participants and no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The program requires supervised sessions, which may be hard for some to attend.
