Magic mushroom therapy tested for cancer Patients' emotional pain

NCT ID NCT06818994

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms'), combined with therapy, can safely help reduce severe emotional distress in people with advanced cancer. Fifteen participants will receive therapy sessions and one dose of psilocybin to see if it lessens feelings of hopelessness and despair. The main goals are to check for safety and see if the treatment reduces demoralization, a specific type of psychological suffering common in serious illness.
