First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with talk therapy can safely reduce demoralization—a deep sense of hopelessness—in 15 adults with advanced cancer. Participants receive 6 therapy sessions plus one 25 mg dose of psilocybin. The goal is to see if this approach lowers distress and improves emotional well-being, with a second dose offered if needed.
