Magic mushroom therapy tested for stubborn eating disorder in young adults
NCT ID NCT06399263
Summary
This study is testing whether psilocybin, the active compound in psychedelic mushrooms, can help young adults with difficult-to-treat anorexia nervosa. Forty participants aged 18-25 will receive two guided psilocybin sessions along with therapy preparation and follow-up sessions, while family members also participate in some sessions. Researchers believe psilocybin may help increase mental flexibility, which could lead to lasting changes in rigid eating and exercise patterns common in anorexia.
