Could a shot of your own blood beat botox for bladder control?
NCT ID NCT07184307
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the bladder wall can help people with overactive bladder that hasn't improved with standard treatments. PRP, made from a patient's own blood, is compared to Botox, a common treatment for this condition. About 48 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either PRP or Botox injections, and their symptoms will be tracked for one year to see which treatment works better and lasts longer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or botulinum toxin (Botox)
What this could lead to
If PRP works as well as Botox with fewer side effects and longer-lasting results, it could offer a new, natural treatment option for people with stubborn overactive bladder.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 48 participants. PRP is experimental for this use, and it may not prove as effective or durable as hoped. There is also a risk of side effects like infection or temporary difficulty emptying the bladder.
