Could a Blood-Derived gel heal anal fistulas without major surgery?
NCT ID NCT04187651
First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a gel made from a patient's own blood (platelet-rich plasma) can help close perianal fistulas—abnormal tunnels that form near the anus. One hundred adults with this condition are being treated and followed to see if the fistula tract closes, checked by physical exam and MRI. The approach aims to improve healing without the need for long-term medication, though ongoing monitoring is still required.
