First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tested whether applying a patient's own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the chest wound during heart surgery helps it heal better and reduces infections. 98 adults having open-heart surgery were randomly assigned to receive either standard wound closure or PRP plus standard closure. Researchers tracked wound infections, healing time, hospital costs, and readmissions to see if PRP offers extra benefits.
