Patient's own blood may speed recovery after heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07352020

Summary

This study tested whether applying a patient's own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the breastbone wound during heart bypass surgery could reduce infections and improve healing. In the trial, 98 patients were randomly assigned to receive either standard wound closure or standard closure plus PRP. Researchers then tracked wound complications, hospital stays, and costs for 30 days to see if the PRP treatment provided a benefit.
