Own blood used in experimental eye treatment to halt blinding disease

NCT ID NCT07428798

Summary

This small study tested whether injections of a patient's own concentrated blood plasma (platelet-rich plasma or PRP) could slow the progression of advanced dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss. In 14 participants, one eye received three PRP injections over 10 weeks while the other eye was left untreated for comparison. Researchers measured whether the treatment slowed the growth of damaged areas in the retina and helped preserve vision and quality of life.
