Precision proton beams target rare bone tumors

NCT ID NCT01449149

Summary

This study tested whether proton radiation therapy could safely treat two rare types of bone cancer called chordomas and chondrosarcomas. Researchers wanted to see if this more targeted radiation approach could control these difficult tumors while causing fewer side effects like severe fatigue compared to standard radiation. The trial involved 54 adults with these cancers in the skull or spine who hadn't spread to other body parts.
