Scientists probe why patients waste away, seeking nutritional clues

NCT ID NCT02770092

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the body processes protein in people with chronic heart failure (CHF) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), conditions where dangerous weight and muscle loss often occur. Researchers compared 90 patients with these conditions to healthy people, measuring how their bodies responded to different amounts of protein in a drink. The goal was to gather the detailed information needed to design better, personalized nutrition plans to help stop or reverse muscle wasting.
