New trial tests if quicker radiation has same side effects as seed implants for prostate cancer

NCT ID NCT07210502

Summary

This study will compare the side effects of two different radiation treatments for men with low to intermediate risk prostate cancer. One treatment involves implanting tiny radioactive seeds into the prostate in a single procedure. The other is a newer, quicker external radiation treatment delivered in just five sessions over two weeks. Both treatments will use a protective gel placed between the prostate and rectum to help reduce bowel side effects. The trial will randomly assign 220 men to one of the two treatments and track their side effects and quality of life for five years.
