Can friendly bacteria save tiny lives? probiotics tested in premature infants
NCT ID NCT07296718
Summary
This study tested whether giving probiotics (live 'good' bacteria) to premature babies could prevent serious and sometimes deadly gut infections (NEC) and sepsis. It also looked at whether probiotics helped babies tolerate feedings better and grow faster. Researchers compared a single probiotic strain, a mix of several strains, and a placebo (inactive substance) given daily for 28 days to 249 premature infants.
